8 Things You Can Do During Your Well-Deserved Break from School
By Mayzelle Riz Vejano
Our requests have been finally heard! We’ve all been stressed the past months so it’s such a relief that we get a break from school. It’s nice to detach ourselves from all the pressure for a few days. You’re finally catching up with some activities not related to school, right? We thought so too, but in case you’re just lying on your comfy bed pondering what to do the next days, then we’ve got you some activities you can enjoy.
- Spend time with your family
Do you feel bad that you’ve been spending the past weeks in front of your laptop that you don’t get to talk much with your family? This is a good chance to spend some time with them. A cozy movie night would be perfect. How about morning exercises with them? We can be physically active together with our family. - Catch up on that Netflix series
At some point, we all had to hold back ourselves from watching our favorite series’ latest episodes. Now, no need to feel bad for binge-watching alone in your room or with your family. Plus, I’ve heard a perfect combo for binge-watch snacks: popcorn and ice water infused with sliced lemons; healthy and satisfying indeed. How about a Netflix party with your friends? Sounds fun! You don’t have to say your cliché line, “last episode ko na ‘to” for the time being. Well, it probably wasn’t your last episode anyway. - A sweet break is guaranteed with baking
Baking is fun and it kept a lot of people busy during quarantine, but since it takes a lot of time, it’s hard to do it on school days. Make your academic break sweet with some chocolate chip cookies, a comfort food that reminds you of the good old days of your childhood. Personally, I’d love a banana bread paired with dalgona coffee though; the taste and aroma are unmatched! People can’t get enough of baked sushi these days too, maybe it’s time to try if you haven’t. Don’t forget to snap some photos for your Instagram, you have to keep a memory of the day you fall in love with it! - Play some games
An Among Us night with friends is a perfect way to de-stress. You can probably talk and catch up with your friends while looking for the impostor. Well, unless it’s you, of course! We better not act suspicious and just pretend doing some tasks. One important tip: don’t trust your friends! - Exercise
We have been on quarantine for months now so there are limited activities to engage in, especially when online classes started. You might want to consider some exercises that you can do at home and make a habit of doing it everyday, even for just a few minutes during school days. A lot of us are guilty of staying in bed for a long time, so kick start your day with a simple workout routine. What you do first thing in the morning can greatly influence how the rest of your day turns out. - Make health your top-priority
Health is wealth, even more so now that we’re facing a pandemic, it’s of great significance that we take care of ourselves. Eat nutritious meals and drink your vitamins. Since you’ve been given a chance to take a break from school, make sure you get enough sleep for the rest of the break, too. - Read books
With a lot of things going on outside that take a toll on our mental health, it would be nice to distract ourselves once in a while. A book is your best friend if you wish to be engrossed in something before going back to reality in a few days. It’s a nice way to keep yourself away from your gadgets and give your eyes a rest, especially now that almost everything is done online. - Tidy up your room
You might have been too caught up in your school works that you haven’t cleaned your room in a while. Take the time to tidy up so that you can study more efficiently when the academic break is over.
While the main purpose of this academic break is to take a rest from our workloads, we can also spend some of these days catching up on some readings and activities. Remember that your mental health should be prioritized, so you can spend the break however you want to.
